Artist
Statement
Andy
Libertone has been an important artist in the Denver/
Boulder area for the past thirty five years. His recent
work has been geometric drawings and powder coated
steel sculpture. These two media have inter-played
in a long series of drawings and dramatic totemic
steel pieces. The work concentrates many geometric
shapes, patterns that relate to mid- century modernism.
Andy
was born in New York City and was educated at Parsons
School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute and
Stanford University. Andy taught art for twenty years
in many local colleges including the University of
Colorado Boulder.
He has
presented many one-man shows as well as sculpture
shows at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Denver Art Museum
and the Joslyn Art Museum. Andy co-founded the
Spark Gallery, the first artist run gallery in Denver.
He has also executed a number of important commissions
including large gazebo sculptures for the City
of Denver and private developer in the town of Lone
Tree Colorado. His work is included in many
private and corporate collections. Kaiser Permanente
Hospital, ATT, and Kinder Morgan Energy Company to
mention a few.
