Statement
I have created papier-mâché mouse characters engaged in a myriad of activities ranging from sports, to reading, to surfing the web. Characters include Romans, Greeks, frat boys, Nobel laureates, business mice, Bolder Boulder runners, kayakers, mountain climbers, gurus, and the list goes on.
I have also created a series of digital photographs where I have taken the mice out on location. One example is the Business Trip series Business Mouse travels to various locations in Denver and New York City. The inspiration for the various characters comes from observations of people in my community. I look for humor in everyday people, places, and events. I most recent work includes altered thrift store paintings on which I collage images from books and magazines, as well as photographs of my own work. I also create soft sculptures in the forms of whimsical, dancing figures. About Lisa Michot Lisa Michot is a mixed-media artist who resides in Lafayette, CO. She received her BFA from Louisiana Tech University, her MFA from Brooklyn College in New York and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She is a member of Spark Gallery in Denver and exhibits her work primarily around the metro area. She teaches Art at Front Range Community College in Longmont and Westminster.
Lisa developed her technique of using papier-mâché after moving to Boulder in 1999 and finding it perfect for the dry climate. Through this technique she has tapped into her Cajun background of south Louisiana and the Mardi Gras culture of color, humor, and spontaneity. Her aesthetic is on-the-spot, intuitive and immediate, with a humorous, whimsical twist.
