Artist
Statement
“FOR ME, THE JOY OF BEING AN ARTIST IS THE SURPRISE AND MAGIC, THE LIVELINESS OF A PAINTING OR PRINT WHEN IT TAKES ON A LIFE OF ITS OWN.”
Michaele Keyes is a long-time Boulder artist who has worked almost exclusively in monotype printmaking in recent years.
Her June 2010 show at Spark, titled “Flurry of Activity” (with pieces represented on this page), explores a lifetime of observation and fascination with the way space integrates and relates things to one another. Whether the small space between the tracks of an animal in snow or the grand ancient space of the Mohave Desert, she is drawn in by “the spaces between the things I see, and between myself and the world itself.”
In this series of monotypes, she wanted to express that perspective in a non-objective way onto paper.
Keyes’ paintings and prints have been in numerous juried shows and Denver galleries and have been recognized by awards. Her work has been published in “Expressive Drawing” by Joseph Mugnaini, 1988, Davis Publications Inc., Worcester, Mass., and other publications. She studied at the University of the Americas in Mexico City and holds a B.F.A. degree from the University of Denver.
She is represented by 15th Street Studio in Boulder, Colorado, and is a member of Spark Gallery.
