Susanna Cavalletti

Biography

I was born in Denver, Colorado in 1950 and I am a fifth generation Coloradan. I am proud of this, for Colorado natives seem to be quite rare. I am also very attached to the western landscape although I have lived in a number of other remarkable and beautiful places; Alaska, California, New Mexico, Italy and New York being some of them. I have been working with images drawn from the land in a variety of styles but it has been in the last ten years or so that I have focused on realism and representationalism with an eye for the unusual, even abstract compositions.

No matter where I am, from the lush forests of Alaska, to the exposed forms of New Mexico, to the medieval cities of Italy, I am taking it all in with the delight of the observant and recreating my sensations through art.

I have studied printmaking, drawing, painting and art history and received both my BFA and MFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I was also fortunate to accomplish some non-degree work at the University of New Mexico and study lithography with Garo Antresian while there. In Anchorage, Alaska I belonged to a thriving studio called the Visual Arts Center of Alaska and I worked in a private lithographic atelier called Solstice Press. I have a daughter in college and she, not surprisingly, exhibits talents in poetry, painting and music. I have taught at many of the metro colleges and universities and presently I teach at the University of Colorado, for the Fine Arts and Continuing Education Departments. I am a long time member of Spark, a cooperative gallery in Denver where I regularly exhibit my art work.
