Artist Statement My paintings in gouache on paper reflect images from my dreams, objects of personal significance, and from places that I have traveled. I am interested in the use of bold color and overall pattern, which has been influenced, in part by Mexican art and Aboriginal Dreamings. The images in both the collages and paintings are from my collections such as clothing, jewelry, fabric, natural forms and plants. The broken heart has been used repeatedly in several series of the paintings as a personal icon. The collages use the actual objects that were in the original paintings and other found forms. The compositions are unplanned and the images somewhat unrelated–exercising the “stream of consciousness” quality in my work. |
