Honest Work

New encaustic and ink paintings

Spark Gallery March 1 -25, 2012

900 Santa Fe Drive

Denver, CO 80204

Honest Work is a fresh series of encaustic and ink paintings inspired and stimulated by my deep roots in the American Midwest. I paint abstract colorful images of armatures of aging steel mills, rusted out car shells, abandoned and boarded jazz clubs, and billboards layered with faded images of Motor City cars, colas and cigarettes.

These new works have an unmistakable contemporary twist. Each is authentic and fresh combining sprays of colorful street art ink fused with encaustic. This randomness as seen in street art allows the drips and disappearing text to define the underlying chaos by creating a grids resembling streets from a city map. A hallmark of personal accessibility and sensibility is left for the viewer to navigate.

The saying “an honest days pay for an honest days work” rings just as true as the bead of sweat on the upper lip and coke-stained grinning face of a steel mill worker just finishing up a 12 hour graveyard shift.
